Friday evening, 23rd March 2012

Theme: Psychiatric Perspectives - a discussion of current best practice and a professional review of psychopharmacological interventions. Listening to Prozac, Listening to Jung William Styron in his memoir of clinical depression Darkness Visible wrote ‘To most of those who have experienced it, the horror of depression is so overwhelming as to be quite beyond expression’. In this lecture Dr Richard Blennerhassett will consider the nature of severe depressive illness and its treatment. He will explore the question Is it possible to provide integrative treatment that combines the advances of modern psychiatry and the healing potential of analytical psychology. Theme: Analytical Psychology for the Future

Jung and the Art of Brain Maintenance:

Takes a roadtrip via The Attachment Café and Trauma Alley, incorporating a takeaway of lightly-seasoned neuroscience, with a sidecar full of Collected Works and a cool-box of clinical vignettes, all the better to explore and reclaim the far-reaching inferences of our rich heritage as Jungians. This day-long seminar will consider contemporary advances in psychology and post-postJungian theorising, and asks whether revisioning - or surgery – is needed. The body in analysis is a day-long theme as we explore clinical interventions in a possible new paradigm.

Childhood and Adolescence

This seminar looks at the developments of the first stages of life, from a Jungian perspective. The importance of the archetypal dimension of the psyche in organising and directing the biological course of the life cycle, is considered.

Places at the Conference need to be booked by 30th November 2011. As this is a non-profit making event designed specifically for the IAPA, we have been able to keep the cost at a minimum but require a non-refundable deposit of €200. The total conference fee of €320 (Single supplement €110) includes 2 nights’ accommodation with full Irish breakfast, private three course dinner in Gold Salon on Saturday evening and all seminars.
